Based on the unbelievable but true events, I, Tonya is a dark comedic tale of American figure skater, Tonya Harding, and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy was forever defined by her association with an infamous and poorly executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan. Featuring an iconic turn by Margot Robbie as the fiery Harding, Sebastian Stan, Allison Janney, and an original screenplay by Steven Rogers, Craig Gillespie's I, Tonya is an absurd, irreverent, and piercing portrayal of Harding’s life and career in all of its unchecked—and checkered—glory.

  • Pretty good movie.

Almost makes you feel sorry for Tonya. The acting was great. Highly recommend it.
  • It was ok

I wasn't a fan of the style used to tell this story, but the movie was well acted. It was alright.
  • Best movie I’ve seen in ages

    By writeronthestorm
Movie was perfection, from dialogue to set design. If you were born in 80s or earlier you will appreciate everything this movie has to offer. I have to admit, I grew up in a trailer. This movie really struck a cord. This movie nailed every bitter sweet and heart wrenching aspect of growing up dirt poor with crazy/trashy parent to boot. This movie is funny, sad, and exciting all at the same time. With perfectly executed acting, editing, and directing iTonya will make you question what you everything thought about Tonya Harding.
  • So good

It’s definitely a dark comedy. The film is entertaining throughout. Definitely one of the best movies I’ve seen this year.
  • Now I Love Tonya!

Very funny and very sad. If only someone could have rescued Tonya from the hot mess of her life so she could have continued in the skating world. She had wonderful talent and could have contributed to skating in coaching, etc. Lots of story details put together in epic entertainment. One of the few recent movies I will watch again. Loved it!
  • I get it

Big-name actor(s) + provocativeness = critical & popular darling. I think if you've got any kind of class, you'll be utterly turned off by this movie.
  • Good

    Loved the film & Margot
  • Disgusting

I can find no reason why people actually thought this movie should be considered for Best Picture. The language is reason enough to disqualify the film for anything but the trash. The F bomb is literally used every fourth or fifth word and there is absolutely no reason to do so. If you have any children, do not let them watch this movie unless you don’t care what they hear.
  • Top of 2018

    By Mopofree02
I know this movie came out at the end of 2017 but I wasn’t able to see it until 2018 and I was so happy when I finally got tickets. I hardly knew anything about Tonya Harding and the entire scandal, except a ABC special they had to interview Tonya and everything in her life. But when I finished the movie, I walked out amazed how great this movie was. Margot Robbie gives a emotional and amazing role that makes you feel like your hearing the actual Tonya discuss her life. Allison Janney gives a hilarious but upsetting role as Lavonna Harding and is able to bring emotion to a person who hardly anyone knew Sebastian Stan, even though he has a smaller role in this movie, is a delight to watch as Jeff and is able to show who this man was. The story is very enjoyable and it leaves you on the edge of your seat, wanting to know more. I would definitely recommend it. 10/10
  • great acting drowned out by shallow style and soundtracks

    By RaduRanga
The movie trailer's unvarnished tone signals that this will be a revealing story, but it never reveals much about the extrodinary characters beyond their well acted thumbnail caricatures. It missed the opportunity to delve more deeply and anaylyze Jeff's, Tanya's and even Nancy's back stories and motivations. In the end, it feels more like an SNL skit without the punchlines. The movie meanders aimlessly between random action, f-word laiden snippets and uses every tired hit song from every movie ever made in the 80s and 90s in lieu of great writing, acting and scene exploration.
