“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.

The cinematography is just awesome, the story telling is very different and it leaves a lasting impact, very original. The sounds are just phenomenal and fits very well, it gives me chills honestly very suspenseful and thrilling. The actors did good too, fresh new faces but great talents, Fionn Whitehead is an awesome actor he definitely deserved to be the lead actor, Aneurin Barnard acts with his facial expressions and he has nailed it, Barry Keoghan made me cry and oh boy Harry Styles is surprisingly good at his character. DEFO 5 stars, it’s just a great and suspenseful it’s unlike other typical war movies. Nolan’s very creative I am loss at words great director.

  • Intresting

This movie is mixed and intresting. The effects are probably better than a marvels movie and more complex and realistic, the sound, lighting, and visual effects are remarkable. The reason I gave this movie 2 stars is because it is just bad, their is a really difficult story to follow, barely any character commentary, and slow action build up. The movie will be slow for 15 minutes then burst with action, the action is great and kept me from falling asleep (especially those planes). But the story is bad and the plot is bad, making the movie boring and tiring to watch.

Disjointed storyline. Lacked the scale for such an epic event.
  • A good setting is not a good story

I watched the first 44 minutes and aborted, largely out of boredom. The scenery was well reconstructed. The effects were far above average. The actors were first class. But the storyline was either invisible or inscrutable throughout. Yes, Dunkirk was pandemonium. The loss of life, appalling. The Maginot Line had fallen, followed by the maddest scramble for safety in the entire war; even the Germans at the end didn’t scramble so. And when they reached the coast, nothing. Just a few hundred thousand soldiers waiting. 338,000 were evacuated—a monumental achievement that deserves 5 stars. But that was reality. And many reviewers, I’m afraid we’re reviewing history, not this movie. Aside from confusing, uninteresting, and unnecessary chronological disordering, there really wasn’t much story conflict. Withholding or disordering events to give audiences something to unravel isn’t a story, in my opinion. There have been other attempts to portray Dunkirk, none as realistic as this, and there is certainly great value in remembering—or learning for the first time. Three cheers for that. But that does not make it a story. It is always difficult to portray epic events in history because of the inherent conflict between the need for a story to have a handful of characters to draw the audience in, and the need to show the gigantic scale of the event. It’s nearly impossible to do both. No exception here.

I didn't enjoy this movie, not because it’s bad, but because it’s highly stressful, there is no joy in war but in entertainment there should be at least some. I would not watch it again. On the plus point the captain of the small boat who sets sail for Dunkirk is a new Super Hero of mine...

I saw this last night for the first time. I was really excited to see it since its reviews were so good. I personally found it overrated. It was slow and impossibly hard to follow especially at first. It was more of a drama than an action/adventure movie which is what i though it was going to be. However, it was realistic, nitty-gritty, and it touched my heart gently. It was, in conclusion, a good reminder of the hardship suffered by the Americans, British, and French. Dunkirk.
