Despite her harsh surroundings, the precocious and ebullient Moonee has no trouble making each day a celebration of life, her endless afternoons overflowing with mischief and grand adventure as she and her ragtag playmates—including Jancey, a new arrival to the area who quickly becomes Moonee’s best friend—fearlessly explore the utterly unique world into which they’ve been thrown. Unbeknownst to Moonee, however, her delicate fantasy is supported by the toil and sacrifice of Halley, who is forced to explore increasingly dangerous possibilities in order to provide for her daughter.

  • Not for parents of Small Children

This film has some redeeming qualities (mainly the acting). But, when I gave my kiddos, that are the same age as those in the movie, to the babysitter to go have a little adult time, this movie was basically the LAST thing I wanted to see. The cast was outstanding. Truly amazing acting, but when it comes right down to it,the biggest flaw for me was that there really was no plot. The movie is just a snapshot of the life of kids in a bad situation. Kids do this, Kids do that, Parent does this, parent does that, etc. Lastly, the ending was terrible. It just leaves you with a ton of questons (most noticeably "how in the world...") and expectatoions that sometjhing else is going to happen (Nope). Might as well show them get into a rocketship and go to the moon. Just about as likely to happen in real life.

This movie is horrible in so many ways. Actors play is great though. Absolute waste of time and money.
  • Thought provoking

This movie personally highlights the very very grey area of poverty and children.
  • Depressing...

I wanted to love this, and knew it would be a little dark, but watched waiting for that little spark of light at the end of the tunnel...Nope...depressing and sad. If you’re into that give it a watch, the acting was good and it was filmed beautifully, but if you want to feel good after watching it, it’s not for you...
  • Reality ,like it or not !

For all the disappointed critics out there this is a very realistic film about life in the poor parts of a tourist town! Great acting . So natural it could be a documentary. If you want the Fantasy version then Go To DisneyWorld !!!

The worst movie ever. This movie is so pointless no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It neither is cinema verite nor worth while fiction. The trailer is deceptive t o lead you to believe it’s about the magic of childhood nor is it an honest portrait of dysfunctional single parents that live near the magic kingdom.
  • Thoroughly depressing.

I went into this movie hoping for something, and I got the exact opposite. Don’t get me wrong, the acting is okay, but the subject matter is a bummer. I was thinking it would at least have a cathartic ending, but it just kind of ends. I was literally sitting on my sofa with my hands in the air saying “that’s it?”.

I get what he was trying to accomplish here but it just didn’t land for me. The ending left me wishing I had my $6 back as well.
